Sexual harassment refers to the unwelcome imposition of sexual attention often in the context of a relationship of unequal power. The policy applies to men and women equally with regard to both opposite sex and same sex harassment.
Sexual harassment is any conduct, physical or verbal, that is sexual in nature and which has the effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's or group's educational or work performance or which creates an intimidating, hostile, or abusive educational or work environment. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature from a work or educational setting.
Sexual harassment is demeaning and degrading and a form of prohibited discrimination on the basis of sex. It is an affront to an individual's dignity, sense of self and self-esteem. As such it can have a negative impact on performance at work or in an academic setting. Sexually harassing behaviors are prohibited by Indiana State University and will not be tolerated.
