Community Engagement
THE FRONT DOOR TO ISU!
Indiana State University has long been recognized nationally for its level of community engagement, and as a part of the strategic planning process, ISU has made a commitment to an even higher level of engagement so that every student has at least one community engagement experience before graduation, more faculty and staff hold community leadership positions, and more businesses and community organizations are served by the University. The Center for Public Service and Community Engagement was established to serve as a front door to Indiana State University. The purpose of the CPSCE is to enhance the quality of life in the Wabash Valley and State of Indiana by providing opportunities for nonprofit and profit organizations, governmental agencies, and citizens to access the service and programs of the University. The CPSCE also provides individual support for students, staff, and faculty who are interested in community engagement projects.
ISU is also a participant in the American Democracy Project which is a multi-campus initiative that seeks to create an intellectual and experiential understanding of civic engagement for undergraduates enrolled at institutions that are members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The goal of the project is to produce graduates who understand and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as citizens in a democracy. The American Democracy Project is co-sponsored by AASCU and the New York Times and includes nearly 200 AASCU institutions.
