Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Assessment and Accreditation

Mission Statement

The Academic Affairs Assessment and Accreditation Office functions as a supportive service to ISU departments, colleges, and programs.  The office provides guidance in assessing learning outcomes as they relate to the university, college, and department/program mission statements, and in using the results of assessment to enhance curriculum and instruction.  It supports the university community by:

  • Assisting each academic program in creating a clear and concise assessment process, in consultation with deans, associate/assistant deans, department chairpersons, program directors, and faculty assessment teams;
  • Offering training programs on assessment;
  • Promoting the use of assessment data to improve student learning outcomes;
  • Improving the effectiveness of assessment instruments and data analysis;
  • Facilitating appropriate reporting structures and data maintenance procedures for assessment;
  • Encouraging the inclusion of professionals and other appropriate external participants in the creation of assessment plans at the university, college, and departmental/program level;
  • Developing and maintaining a public reporting mechanism that reports assessment results at ISU;
  • Helping the ISU community to be recognized as a university with state-of-the-art assessment processes and procedures, through faculty and staff publications and presentations on assessment;
  • Assisting programs, departments, and colleges in being nationally recognized as having high quality programs, in part due to faculty and department-led efforts to continually improve programs through the use of assessment information;
  • Communicating to the university community, colleges, and programs the activities, successes and opportunities provided by the assessment activities of the division of academic affairs;
  • Maintaining the Assessment and Accreditation Website.
