Provost’s Excellence Through Diversity Initiative
Faculty are at the core of the academic mission and a resource that requires intensive investment of time with respect to recruitment, hiring, and retention. Our Strategic Plan reinforces this point when it emphasizes the importance of attracting excellent candidates to the institution and providing them an environment of support and growth opportunity. The Plan also emphasizes the importance of a diverse faculty, particularly with respect to race and ethnicity that is more highly reflected in our student body.
Diversity is a form of excellence and we can do more to realize it here at ISU. Research is clear – heterogeneous organizations provide numerous benefits and for both majority and minority communities. Toward this end, Indiana State is launching the Excellence Through Diversity Initiative that includes focused support for faculty searches that is underway now, and planned career support resources and programming designed to build distinctiveness externally about ISU and attractiveness as place to build/advance an academic career. One example is our national teleconference series that we offer twice per year. It is also designed to support our current communities at ISU. More will be forthcoming on this in subsequent weeks.
