AFTER IT HAPPENS
Reluctance of faculty to formally report violations: The University of Alberta lists these
reasons: perception
of the university process as time-consuming & tedious; often the punishments do not fit the crime; reluctance to
damage the student's reputation or career; difficulty in proving the accusation; lodging a complaint against a
student might reflect badly on the teacher's own teaching skills; it can be a traumatic, emotionally draining
experience.
