Introduction to Social Work

Gender and Visual Culture Studies

Want to change the world? Across the U.S., social workers touch the lives of millions of people each day, helping them overcome life’s hurdles so they can live to their full potential. The Introduction to Social Work seminar will provide students with an overview of the profession of social work, including a review of the diverse populations served, the necessary skills and knowledge for effective practice, and the discipline’s Code of Ethics/personal value systems. Students will dive into the life of a social worker by learning how to serve within medical, mental health, school, policy, and advocacy settings . . . and so much more! Afternoons will include agency visits as well as volunteer work experiences for hands-on opportunities to serve the community.
