Admissions Requirements

The online master of science (M.S.) in history is open to eligible in-state and many out-of-state applicants. The program is closed to students residing in countries other than Canada and the United States (including U.S. Territories). The exceptions are U.S. military and State Department personnel and their family members with APO/FPO addresses.

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree in history or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution
  • Have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 in all undergraduate course work; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the applicant's major field of study; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all courses taken at the graduate level

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test scores or scores from other standardized examinations are not required although the applicant may, at his or her discretion, submit test scores for consideration.

Important: The department welcomes applications from students who have previously specialized in related subject areas and who show promise of sustained and self-disciplined work in history. Students not meeting all requirements for admission may be admitted conditionally and allowed to make up deficiencies.
