Joshua Powers is the Interim Associate Vice President for Student Success. In this role, he is responsible for programs that impact student persistence and graduation, has oversight responsibilities for the Student Academic Services Center of Residence Life, and provides leadership for the development of an integrated Strategic Enrollment Management Plan focused on student retention.
Powers assumed this role in July 2012, having served for the previous two years as the Special Assistant to the Provost for Academic Initiatives responsible for diversifying the faculty initiative, an interdisciplinary project entitled Unbounded Possibilities, and the department chair professional development program. Prior to this role, Powers was an American Council on Education Fellow where he spent a year under the mentorship of two college presidents. Powers is a tenured full professor in the Department of Educational Leadership where he has taught since 2000 in the higher education doctoral program and the masters program in student affairs.
Powers has doctoral degrees in higher education and organizational behavior from Indiana University Bloomington. He also has a masters degree in student affairs from Indiana University Bloomington and a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in English from the University of Vermont.
