Karl E. Burgher, Ph.D., P.E. has been a professor and administrator at
multiple institutions for over 25 years, working extensively with the
private and government sectors on soft money educational- , research- ,
and outreach- projects. Karl
specializes in change management, strategic planning, contract
acquisition, reorganization, pricing, and start-ups. Prior to taking the
position at ISU he was associated with the Engineering Management and
Systems Engineering Department at the Missouri University of Science and
Technology (formerly – the University of Missouri-Rolla), where he
taught Management, Project Management, and Entrepreneurial Studies to
graduate and undergraduate students. He has collaborated with faculty
and administrators from dozens of institutions including Colorado,
Kansas, and Michigan State Universities, Middlebury College, The
University of Utah, Haskell Indian Nations University, and Little Big
Horn College.
Karl’s career experiences include holding the
positions of Professor (tenured in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering
Technology, and Business), Center Director, Interim Chair, Vice
President of Research and Contracts, Interim Chief Technology Officer,
and President. He has also performed extensive consultation in
construction as an explosive’s engineer, community and technical
outreach, and socio- and economic-development. Karl earned both a B.S.
and an M.S. in Mining Engineering from Michigan Technological
University, specializing in engineering and costing, and a B.S. in
Economics and a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering, specializing in pricing and
econometric modeling, both from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
