International Baccalaureate
Course Equivalencies
Indiana State University awards credit to students that have taken International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. Students may receive credit by earning the required
score in a specific subject. To earn credit, students must request that an official IB transcript be sent to the Office of
Admissions.
Follow the links below for information on IB courses, including required scores and associated credits available at
Indiana State University. Please note that the list below is not finalized and will be updated periodically to expand our

Anthropology SL
Students who complete Anthropology SL receive ISU credit for:
- ENVI 130 - World Cultures and Environments
Credit hours awarded: 3
IB score required: 5-7
Anthropology HL
Students who complete Anthropology HL receive ISU credit for:
- ENVI 130 - World Cultures and Environments and
ENVI 001 - Cultural Anthropology Elective
Credit hours awarded: 6
IB score required: 5-7
Biology SL
Students who complete Biology SL receive the following ISU credit based on their IB score:
- BIO 112/L - Human Aspects of Biology and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 4
IB score required: 4-5
- BIO 101/L - Principles of Biology I and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 4
IB score required: 6
- BIO 101/L - Principles of Biology I and Laboratory and
BIO 102/L - Principles of Biology II and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 8
IB score required: 7
Biology HL
Students who complete Biology HL receive the following ISU credit based on their IB score:
- BIO 101/L - Principles of Biology I and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 4
IB score required: 5
- BIO 101/L - Principles of Biology I and Laboratory and
BIO 102/L - Principles of Biology II and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 8
IB score required: 6 or 7
Chemistry HL
Students who complete Chemistry HL receive ISU credit for:
- CHEM 105/L – General Chemistry I and Laboratory and
CHEM 106/L – General Chemistry II and Laboratory
Credit hours awarded: 8
IB score required: 5-7
Economics SL
Students who complete Economics SL receive ISU credit for:
- ECON 200 - Principles of Macroeconomics
Credit hours awarded: 3
IB score required: 5-7
Economics HL
Students who complete Economics HL receive ISU credit for:
- ECON 200 - Principles of Macroeconomics and
ECON 201 - Principles of Microeconomics
Credit hours awarded: 6
IB score required: 5-7
Geography SL
Students who complete Geography SL receive ISU credit for:
- ENVI 130 - World Cultures and Environments
Credit hours awarded: 3
IB score required: 5-7
Geography HL
Students who complete Geography HL receive ISU credit for:
- ENVI 130 - World Cultures and Environments and
ENVI 001 - Geography Elective (at 200 level)
Credit hours awarded: 6

Language B or Classical Language, SL/HL
Students who complete Language B (SL or HL) or Classical Language (SL or HL) courses (languages described below) will receive the following ISU credit based on their IB scores:
- Elementary (level I) language credit

- Elementary (level I) language credit
Elementary (level II) language credit
Credit hours awarded: 6
IB score required: 5-6
- Elementary (level I) language credit
Elementary (level II) language credit
Intermediate (level I) language credit
Credit hours awarded: 9

Languages: Arabic, Cantonese, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Mandarin, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, and Tamil
Classic Languages: Greek and Latin
Music SL
Students who complete Music SL receive ISU credit for:
- MUS 233 - Music Appreciation
Credit hours awarded: 3
IB score required: 5-7
Music HL
Students who complete Music HL receive ISU credit for:
- MUS 233 - Music Appreciation

Psychology HL
Students who complete Psychology HL receive ISU credit for:
- PSY 001 - Psychology Elective
