Transfer Options

For Undergraduate Students

 
The University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities in the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States.

In addition, transfer agreements with many schools (including Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, and numerous Illinois colleges) ensure maximum transfer of associate degree credit to ISU bachelor degrees.

Apply for admission and submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. For details visit:

  University Admissions Requirements

The following are general admission standards for transfer students:

  1. Good standing at last accredited institution attended
     
  2. High school records that meet the entrance requirements of freshmen admitted to Indiana State University
     
  3. A 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in all college level studies

    The following require higher standards:

    -  Bayh College of Education: 2.5 cumulative GPA

    -  Nursing: Once admitted to the University, nursing programs require a separate application.

NOTE: Transferable hours are restricted to courses in which the applicant earned a grade of C or higher, and courses at the 100-level (and above) from regionally accredited colleges and universities.

  General Guidelines on Credit Transfer

Following are guidelines on credit transfer. These are general guidelines. Upon admission, advisors will review your transcripts and determine which credit transfers and which courses will be included in your program of study.

  1. Credit earned from regionally accredited colleges and universities is transferable.
     
  2. Transfer credit is assigned only for courses at the 100 level (or above) in which you have earned a grade of "C" or higher.
     
  3. Generally, an equivalent number of credit hours are given.
     
  4. Remedial, audited, or non-credit courses do not transfer.
     
  5. College living, orientation, and study skills classes do not transfer.
     
  6. In some cases, credit may be transferable to the University and count toward graduation, but may not be applied toward completion of your intended major.
     
  7. As much as 94 hours of total transfer credit will be accepted for transfer into a bachelor degree program; at least 30 credit hours must be completed through ISU to earn the bachelor degree.
     
  8. As much as 47 hours of total transfer credit will be accepted for transfer into an associate degree.
     
  9. Your grades (GPA) do not transfer except for the purpose of graduation honors.
     
  10. If you transfer a bachelor degree from a regionally accredited American institution, all of the University's Foundational Studies/General Education requirements will be waived.
     
  11. Credit may be granted for military training and experience per these guidelines.
     
  12. Credit earned from international institutions will be evaluated per these guidelines.

  Financial Aid and Scholarships

  • Financial Aid:  As a transfer student, you are eligible for consideration for financial aid programs. Financial aid eligibility differs with each school, and cannot be transferred between schools. The University's Office of Financial Aid will work with you to determine the aid you qualify for at Indiana State University. For instructions for applying for aid, visit financial aid
     
  • Scholarships:  You may be eligible for a transfer scholarship if you will be registering for at least 12 hours each semester and meet other eligibility requirements. For details visit transfer scholarships

  Bachelor Degree-Completion Via Distance Learning (DegreeLink)

DegreeLink is a University program that enables you to transfer credit earned from Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, and other regionally accredited colleges and universities--and complete an ISU bachelor degree via distance learning.

Bachelor degree-completion programs offered in the following majors:

  • Adult and Career Education
  • Business Administration
  • Criminology and Criminal Justice
  • Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Human Resource Development
  • Insurance and Risk Management
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Nursing (R.N. to B.S.)
  • Nursing (L.P.N. to B.S.)
  • Technology Management

Optional minors are offered in accounting, forensic accounting, human resource development, and packaging.
