Taking a driver education course allows a person, in the state of Indiana, to receive their learner’s permit as early as the age of 15. Without a driver education course, that same person would have to wait till age 16.
A driver education course also allows a person to receive their probationary license approximately three months earlier than one who has not taken a driver education course. Many insurance companies provide a discount to individuals who have a driver education course on their record.

Many students are involved in a variety of extracurricular, religious, and personal activities that sometimes interfere with the Driver Education Process. The Driver Education Center will do what they can to assist you in this matter. Classroom times are not easily made-up; therefore you should select a course where the classroom times will not interfere with your activities. Drive times will be scheduled at the Parent Orientation meeting. Having a list of when you can, or cannot, drive will be beneficial in scheduling your drive times.
The Driver Education Center is currently forming a program for individuals who are over 18. If you would like to be placed on a call list when this program will be opened, please give the Driver Education Center a call at 812.237.2982 or email austin.keller@indstate.edu.
