Hello! I'm John Newton, Executive Director of Alumni
Affairs. My first memories of Indiana State date back
to the ISTC Gym and watching Sycamore basketball greats
Johnny Dow and Johnny Robbins lead fast breaks! I'm a
native of Terre Haute, graduated from Wiley High School
in 1965 and ISU in 1970 and 1980.
August of 2007 marked my 34th year as an ISU
employee. My work experience includes alumni affairs,
public relations and development. I've worked with
great mentors and have come to know literally thousands of
ISU alumni, and have an overwhelming love and
appreciation for our alma mater.
My older daughter Anne is an ISU graduate with
degrees in Political Science and Spanish and is a
graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. My younger daughter
Katy attended ISU and is now working in Indianapolis. My
wife's son Craig is a graduate of the ISU School of
Business with both a BS and MBA. My brothers and sister
all attended ISU. As you can see for all of us in the
Newton family ISU is an important part of our
lives.
Here in the Alumni Office we're busy building alumni
clubs across Indiana and the United States (see the
page for alumni clubs). We have also
grown the ISU Alumni Association. The
benefits provided by and the esprit de corps created by
the dues-paying alumni association is gratifying. If
you've not yet joined the Alumni Association, check out
our on-line membership form or call the Alumni Affairs
Office at 1-800-258-6478
Other new programs include the Sycamore Educators
Network, designed to benefit ISU educators, and
Sycamore Send-Offs, a series of regional receptions for
incoming ISU freshmen and their parents. The Alumni
Office continues to organize outstanding reunions and
homecomings and to pursue innovative programs of
interest to alumni.
Our goals are to keep you informed on the progress
of Indiana State, to provide quality programs to
increase your interest, and to earn your involvement
with mutually beneficial activities. I enjoy working
with ISU staff and alumni volunteers to accomplish
these goals which will enhance the image of our
University and foster an even greater spirit of pride
among our alumni.
