ISU ALUMNA NAMED FCS TEACHER OF THE YEAR
"You inherit a brain - you develop a mind," reads a hand-written sign at the front of Kathi Burch's classroom in South Vermillion High School. But Burch doesn't just develop the minds of her own students. By helping them learn how to work with younger children, the impact of her teaching is felt far beyond the 600-student school.

For that, the Indiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences has named Burch its state teacher of the year.

TIMMONS NAMED INTERIM DEAN OF COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN PERFORMANCE
Douglas L. Timmons has been named interim dean of Indiana State University's College of Health and Human Performance.

"I am pleased and excited to appoint Dr. Timmons to this important position," said C. Jack Maynard, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Indiana State University. "Dr. Timmons has a distinguished career at ISU and is respected by all faculty, staff, and students who have had the opportunity to interact with him. I am comfortable that he will continue to provide strong leadership for the College in this new role."

Timmons, who has served as associate dean of the college since 1993, will serve as interim as current dean Barbara Passmore retires at the end of the month.

"I've been here at ISU for 25 years and worked in the dean's office for 15 of those 25 years and I really look forward to the challenge," said Timmons, 61.

Timmons is a 1967 Indiana State University graduate with a degree in physical education/health and safety.
