ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTAlumni spotlight.

J. ROBERTS DAILEY
J. Roberts Dailey was a 1941 graduate of Indiana State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business.  Dailey was also a former Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives.

Mr. Dailey was considered the most powerful man in state government during his 3 terms in the House of Representatives.  He was formally elected and sworn in as Speaker of the 102nd Indiana General Assembly in November, 1980.

Growing up in Riley, Indiana and working his way through ISU, Dailey served in World War II and then began his career in real estate in 1946.  He eventually worked his way up to ownership of his own sales and development firm in Muncie.

Elected to the House in 1976, J. Roberts Dailey was an outspoken opponent of state-supported gambling and used the powerful Speaker's position to stave off the creation of a state lottery.  The Hoosier Lottery was not started until 1989, 2 years after he left office.

J. Roberts Dailey received ISU's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1985.  He recently passed away at the age of 86.
