Career Network
Become a Mentor
The Indiana State University Office of Alumni Affairs and the ISU
Career Center have developed an alumni mentor program to assist students
with their career development and to reconnnect alumni with Indiana
State University.
Students benefit from the program by having the opportunity to interact
with ISU alumni who work in the students' field of study. Alumni volunteers
are able
to provide students with information pertaining to classes and collegiate
experiences that benefited them in obtaining their positions and which
make
them successful in their chosen careers.
Alumni mentors may also be able to answer questions regarding resume
development and effective interviewing skills. In some instances, alumni
may be able to allow students to shadow them at work for a few hours
and offer career and job search advice.
Discussion Topics
Mentors will be able to help their students by facilitating:
- E-mail or phone discussions regarding career related advice.
- Resume and cover letter critiques.
- Job shadowing or visits to job sites.
- Informal lunch meetings.
- Informal meetings at alumni events such as
- Homecoming, alumni club events, sporting events, alumni/student
receptions.
How to Participate
All ISU students, staff, and alumni are invited to participate in this
program. If you would like to volunteer, complete the student or alumni
profile form and email it to the Office of Alumni Affairs.
The Office of Alumni Affairs will match students with alumni who
share similar professional interests and career goals.
