14th and chestnut community center, inc- Youth Leader

14th and Chestnut provides food to hundreds of individuals through the free food pantry, as well as sponsoring after-school programs for youth and summer programs for children and teens.  This organization also provides adult services of tutoring, GED preparation, etc.  It is the mission of 14th and Chestnut to partner with and to provide free services to this community by assisting with physical, educational, emotional, and social needs to effectively help change broken lives in Terre Haute.

arts illiana-Artist Development Coordinator

Arts Illiana provides services to artists, arts providers, and others, and works with community leaders to attract new people to the area, encourage current residents to stay, and strengthen cultural tourism offerings.   The organization is governed by a board of directors that represents a cross section of the Wabash Valley including artists and educators as well as business and community leaders. Operational funds are generated through memberships, sponsorships, and grants.  The Indiana Arts Commission is Arts Illiana’s largest financial supporter.   Arts Illiana is the place to come to connect with the arts and cultural organizations and events of the Wabash Valley and to browse the gallery and be able to purchase the art of regional artists.  The site is open six days a week.  We invite you to stop in and see us—become a member...we need your support to provide the best service possible.

chances for indiana youth-Program Assistants

Over the years, CHANCES has been recognized both locally and nationally for its efforts in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention. In 1995, CHANCES was recognized by the National Family Partnership as the “outstanding Local Prevention Program.” Today CHANCES has become well-known in the Wabash Valley, serving 18 counties and sponsoring such statewide programs as Red, Orange , and Blue Ribbon Campaigns, and the Indiana SADD Program. Each year, thousands of Wabash Valley Youth learn about substance abuse prevention through programs of CHANCES for Indiana Youth. In recent years, the giraffe has come to symbolize the work of the agency. The staff and volunteers “stick their necks out for youth.”

crossroads connections-Recreation Activities Assistant

The primary focus of Crossroads Connections is on meeting the needs of young girls through providing shelter and support for girls between the ages of 12-18 who are experiencing confusion regarding life, emotional stress. family problems, pregnancy, or various other hardships.  This is a 24/7 facility.  This program is holistic and endeavors to nurture residents spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Developmental Services, Inc-Client Services Assistant

Developmental Services, Inc. is a nonprofit agency established in 1975 to help children and adults with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities reach their greatest potential at home, work and in the community. DSI provides early intervention services as well as job training and job placement, independent and group living, life skills training, respite care and family support. DSI currently provides service to individuals in 37 counties in Indiana.

ESL Tutor and Literacy Support Volunteer

Vigo County Public Library English as a Second Language Program is a volunteer-based literacy program assisting adults in the community with their English language skills. The ESL and Literacy Support Volunteer will prepare individual lessons customized to the learner's goals which may include conversational English, work-related language skills, health care language skills, citizenship preparation, banking and consumer language skills, reading skills for adult and children's materials, and everyday life skills. This volunteer needs to have the ability to work with adult learners of various backgrounds, abilities, cultures, and learning styles. Additionally, a high degree of energy, resourcefulness, tact, and demonstrated good judgment is required. The individual must be friendly, creative, professional, and have the ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.

Hamilton Center Employment Solutions Program Assistant

Employment Solutions and Project SEARCH are programs of Hamilton Center that provide services for adolescents and adults with disabilities to build vocational skills to obtain and maintain employment. Project SEARCH is a pilot program implemented in nine Indiana to assist high school students with disabilities as they transition from high school to work. This position could give AmeriCorps members experience in job development and increased skills to build their own resume. Our team works with a variety of social service agencies and area companies/business to assist people with a wide variety of disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment.

Saint ann clinic-Medication assistance

St. Ann Clinic is a not-for-profit medical clinic devoted to providing free health care to individuals who are without medical services, medical insurance, and are living without access to needed medical care.  Medication assistance is provided by St. Ann Clinic in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies.  St. Ann Clinic obtains medications for people with chronic conditions who do not have insurance for prescriptions.  The volunteer serves as a liaison between clients and pharmaceutical companies, as well as processes and dispenses medications.

The Museum has been the recipient of National Science Foundation Funding. It also participates in a national consortium of 14 science and technology museums.

Vigo County casa- casa kids volunteer

The Vigo County CASA Kids primary objective is to support the Vigo County CASA program by enriching the lives of abused and neglected children; training, supporting, and empowering each volunteer; encouraging professional growth for each CASA employee and increasing the community’s awareness of CASA. The CASA Kids program raises, manages, and distributes funds to benefit the CASA program, volunteers, staff, and children. This is accomplished through a variety of activities that include but are not limited to: fundraising, speaking engagements, donor relationship building, grant writing, partnerships and research.

Vigo County casa- casa volunteer

The mission of the Vigo County CASA is to provide specially selected and trained community volunteers to advocate and represent the abused and neglected child within the juvenile court system; in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes for them through collaboration with key agencies, legal counsel, and community resources. The CASA program utilizes the services of volunteers to advocate for the best interest of the child as he/she progresses through the juvenile court system. They are the voice of the child ensuring that the highest level of safety and permanency for the child is obtained in a timely manner. The volunteer writes reports to the court for court hearings after a thorough investigation of the case relating their findings and recommendations to the magistrate as to what is the “best interest of the child.” The volunteer will interact with many social service agencies.

Vigo County head start- classroom assistant

Gain valuable early education teaching experience by helping Head Start promote school readiness. The volunteer will assist in the program’s effort to enhance the social and cognitive development by offering educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. Vigo County Head Start provides developmentally appropriate preschool activities with a special focus on helping children develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. This volunteer will assist in implementing and monitoring age appropriate curriculum in the classroom, and they will also help conduct classroom experiences for the children and parents. The Head Start staff recognizes that the parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. This volunteer will have the opportunity to assist the Parent Involvement Coordinator in providing support services to families during Family Fun Night and Father Involvement Activities.

vigo county lifeline-information and referral assistant

The primary purpose of Lifeline, Inc. is to operate a 24-hour emergency crisis intervention and information/referral service for Vigo County and surrounding areas.  In 2007, Lifeline answered more than 13,000 calls from Wabash Valley residents needing help or information. Callers come from diverse backgrounds and are of all ages and circumstances. Individuals and agency personnel call us to learn what services are available in our community.  Caller needs are diverse, ranging from physical or emotional to financial; the majority of callers seek assistance to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter and medical/prescription help. Lifeline listeners are trained by community professionals to help callers who may be depressed, suicidal, or victims of abuse.

Vigo County Juvenile Justice Center-Homework Helper and Mentor

The Vigo County Juvenile Justice Center is a detention center for adolescents. The center provides services for youth ages 12 – 17 while they are awaiting trial, placement in a facility or foster home, or a return home. The length of stay ranges from 24 hours to 120 days. Residents attend class during the week from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A teacher and counselor are provided by Vigo Country Public School. The facility includes an outdoor recreation space and large gym. There are 19 beds in the facility. The center regularly operates over capacity.

The center provides opportunities for many persons to participate in creating systems that support justice and sustainability, locally and globally. Through organic agriculture, eco-justice education and social advocacy, WVC strives to promote awareness and a way of living which support all life. WVC has three major programs, with many smaller programs branching out. Each maintain the mission of the Sisters of Providence, for education, hope and healing for earth. The three programs are Education, Organic Agriculture, and Alpacas and Fiber Arts.
