Hamilton Center employs over 600 staff statewide, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, therapists, counselors, case managers, etc. Services are provided to children, adolescents, and adults. Hamilton Center also provides specialized programs for pregnant women, infants, and people with drug and alcohol problems. Counseling services are provided for people who may be struggling with stress, life changes, or relationship issues as well as more serious problems such as depression, anxiety disorders, and serious mental illnesses. This volunteer will be asked to supplement Hamilton Center’s programs by designing, planning, and implementing therapeutic activities based on the sciences of music education/therapy, art education, recreation/exercise science, and/or relaxation therapy. The Parke County CASA/GAL Program is an agency which recruits and trains community volunteers to legally represent children who have come into the court system because they are at risk for suffering abuse or neglect. The agency is certified by the Indiana State Supreme Court and the National CASA Association. This position will focus on recruiting and training a diverse group of volunteers, but will also include tracking and reporting the activity of program services (as required by state and federal agencies), and assisting volunteers in finding family support resources within the community. Our Whole Lives is a series of sexuality education programs for grades 7-12. These resources for youth are written by professional sexuality educators and provide accurate information for parents, teachers and organizations to use with young people to help them learn about sexuality in an affirming and supportive setting. Vigo County Head Start provides developmentally appropriate preschool activities with a special focus on helping children develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. This volunteer will assist in implementing and monitoring age appropriate curriculum in the classroom, and they will also help conduct classroom experiences for the children and parents. The Head Start staff recognizes that the parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. This volunteer will have the opportunity to assist the Parent Involvement Coordinator in providing support services to families during Family Fun Night and Father Involvement Activities.

Be a mentor to at risk youth by helping facilitate an afterschool program which is designed to provide educational and social guidance for children ages K-5. This volunteer’s primary responsibility will be to help plan and develop a daily, weekly, and monthly activities schedule for after school programming. The volunteer will also lead and assist these afterschool activities. A large component of the afterschool program is tutoring. The afterschool coordinator will contact area school teachers to determine the learning needs of each participant and then partner with other afterschool staff to develop an individualized action plan to improve learning and/or behavior problems. The afterschool coordinator will also be in charge of bringing at least one special event and/or volunteer group to present to the afterschool participants each month. This volunteer will be encouraged to develop new features, programs, and events that can be added to the Community Center's schedule.

WVCC’s Senior Citizens Program provides structured social, recreational, and educational activities. This volunteer will develop and implement a wide range of activities for the seniors. This position will propose new ideas and activities to the agency, and will help plan and implement the schedule. Although the programs will be largely based on the interests of the Seniors in the program, the volunteer will be encouraged to develop activities that foster healthy lifestyles and financial stability. In addition to the daily activities of the program, this volunteer will be responsible for planning at least one special event and/or bringing a volunteer group to present to the senior citizens each month. The Senior Citizens Program Coordinator will strive to improve the quality of life for clients by providing activities that will enable the seniors to obtain new skills, maintain physical abilities, and to further socialize them in appropriate ways.

This volunteer will create a marketing plan to recruit volunteers, and then develop a volunteer management system to increase retention rates of volunteers. Plan, organize, and implement all aspects of the youth sports league activities at West Vigo Community Center. This volunteer will advertise to the community, register players, schedule practice times, plan game days, and communicate league news to parents, players, and coaches. In addition to the logical aspects of planning and running a youth sports league, this volunteer will also be responsible for informing coaches of league rules and program goals. The youth program coordinator will help further the long term goals of the Community Center while encouraging competitive sportsmanship between teams. They will have the opportunity to plan and conduct mini-camps, host fundraiser tournaments, develop sponsorship for teams and events, and assist with volunteer recruitment (coaches, officials, etc). This volunteer will gain organizational skills, networking skills, and non-profit management experience.

Further the White Violet Center's (WVC) environmental awareness and sustainability missions by assisting with general care and maintenance of the Alpaca Farm. WVC's Alpaca Farm breeds high quality alpaca, offers training & support for people purchasing farms, and runs a fiber program that helps train people in spinning, weaving, and felting ( or how to process and utilize the alpaca fleece). The Alpaca Farm is part of WVC's larger mission to offer leadership and education in the preservation, restoration, and reverent use of all natural resources. This volunteer will be handling the animals and maintaining the pasture and barn area. This is a hands on position and the volunteer will have the opportunity to see, learn, and experience several different aspects of the WVC and the Alpaca Farming program.

The White Violet Center for Eco-Justice offers leadership and education in preservation, restoration and reverent use of all natural resources. This volunteer will raise environmental awareness by planning and organizing educational workshops and seminars and service learning opportunities focused on environmental education. This volunteer will help plan and execute field trips, tours, and alternative spring breaks held at the center. This volunteer will develop valuable communication and organizational skills as he/she gains experience working with sustainability and non-for-profit organizations.

The garden assistant volunteer position assists in the maintenance of White Violet Center's 5 acres organic/biodynamic market garden. This garden produces a variety of herbs, cut flowers, and produce for use in the sisters' motherhouse kitchens as well as for sale at two community farmer's markets. The garden assistant helps to ensure that the gardens stay well-maintained and full of vitality for the growing season. The White Violet Center for Eco-Justice's center offers leadership and education in the preservation, restoration and reverent use of all natural resources. This volunteer will be helping to promote WVC's sustainability and environmental awareness missions by contributing to the organic garden project.
