The need for qualified health care professionals versed in
interprofessional practice is growing with an increased need
between 25-44% through 2020. The Applied Medicine
Concentration is designed to ensure that students obtain the
required pre-requisites for a professional program in
Athletic Training, Chiropractic Medicine, Occupational
Therapy, Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy. In fact,
students that complete the AMR Concentration in the top 5%
of their class and meets program requirements can obtain
direct entry into the ISU professional program (OT, PA and
PT). Post-graduation, students may also obtain
employment in medical sales as a physician extender and
medical office administrator.
The coursework in the department emphasizes strong
theoretical foundations within each of the areas of applied
medicine, as well as critical thinking and problem solving
skills. Students also benefit from hands-on clinical
education and/or classroom experiences with health care
professionals.
