Biography
D. Bailey Merrill, a 1978 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in 1933. Active in politics and civic affairs for many years, Merrill was an early worker for civil rights. In 1953 he was elected to the U.S. Congress as the representative of Indiana's 8th District. A former president of the Evansville Bar Association he headed the law firm of Merrill, Schroeder, and Johnson retiring from the firm as a senior member.
