The Department of Domestic Economy was established. The department instituted the policy of training teachers under the Smith-Hughes Act. In the year 1918 it became known as the Home Economics Department Dancing was first permitted on the Normal School campus
The first North Central Association accreditation was received by the Normal School Birch Bayh, Sr. was appointed Head of Physical Training program for men
The Vocational Building (now School of Technology) was completed and the departments of Induatrial Arts and Home Economics moved into the new structure
The first Blue and White Day Alumni Basketball game was held
Department of Romance Languages was established February 8, State Normal School Student's Association was formed for the purpose of securing a house to serve as a Student Union
The Science Building was completed. Cost was $115,000. The building would later house the School of Business. It is now called the Classroom Building
The first Student building was opened in a house located at 671 Eagle Street. The house featured a cafeteria for students
The Muncie National Institute was donated to the ISNS by the Ball Brothers of Muncie, IN. The Eastern Division of the Indiana State Normal School was established in Muncie. Classes began with a summer session on June 17, 1918. Autumn, Student Army Training Corps established in the ISNS Barracks were set up on the fourth floor of the main building. About 150 men enrolled in the unit

December 6, The Athletic Association sponsors the Blue and White activities--a basketball game. This tradition later evolved into Blue and White Day-- and Homecoming festivities during football season.
