1865 A bill was passed to establish a Normal School in Indiana
1866 Terre Haute was chosen for the site of the Normal School

1889 School re-opens in September in new building

1907 High school diploma now required for admission
1908 First bachelor's degree awarded
1918 Opening of an Eastern Division branch camp in Muncie
1919 The first homecoming parade was held
1921 Linnaeus Neal Hines becomes the fourth president
1924 All Normal School courses placed on collegiate level
1927 Graduate school for study of education
1927 Eastern division in Muncie becomes Ball State Teachers College
1928 First master's degrees awarded
1928 Enrollment reaches a high of 1,452 students
1929 Normal School becomes Indiana State Teachers College
