Graduate Painting at ISU is a professional degree program that encourages students to gain mastery of their craft and to understand the concepts and themes that motivate their personal work. Students are challenged to gain knowledge of the critical issues that are pertinent to contemporary achievements in painting. The painting area in Fairbanks Hall includes 4,860 square feet of well-equipped studio space. Private graduate studios are located in Fairbanks Hall and other nearby Art Department facilities. A power tool room furnished with electrical and hand tools enables students to construct canvas stretchers or to build multi-faceted painted objects. Motivated students representing a cross-section of aesthetic persuasions are admitted into the graduate painting program at ISU. The aim of the program is the preparation of students as advanced artists ready to take their places in the professional art world or as teachers in institutions of higher learning.
