REQUIREMENTS- Studio Art
Bachelor of Fine Arts Major (86 semester hours)
The bachelor of fine arts degree is a performance-oriented degree in studio art designed to develop high
levels of competency in one or more studio areas and to prepare candidates to make clear and logical verbal
presentations of artistic matters. Bachelor of fine arts graduates will be prepared to enter the work market
or to pursue a master of fine arts or related graduate degree. The bachelor of fine arts candidate may take
additional credits to meet state teacher licensure requirements.
18 hours of the core curriculum; Studio 215--3 hrs; Studio 210, 245, or 255--3 hrs. (except graphic design
students); Art History 371 and an additional 6 hours of art history; Art History, Art Theory and Criticism, and 4
Museology 382--2 hrs.; Professional Practices 496--3 hrs. (except graphic design students); and additional hours
in art courses to reach 86 hours total. Graphic Design students pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree will
develop a cohesive body of work for public presentation as a required culminating experience in the final
semester of their degree program ARTD 422. The work shall be accompanied by a creative rationale. At least 9
hours outside the area of dimensional emphasis are recommended.
