The Department of Art has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) for over 15 years.
In support of the liberal arts and sciences mission of the College of Arts and Sciences and Indiana State University, the Department of Art participates in the General Education Program, the Honors Program, and the Women's Studies Program. The graduate programs offered by the Department of Art encourage students to develop broad and versatile creative abilities, and to become engaged members of a variety of artistic and scholarly communities. The programs are designed to provide a sequence of experiences that challenge the student and provide meaningful content. The objective is to foster the student’s development of intellectual, communicative, formal, and technical knowledge. The goals of the graduate program are: to deliver a suitably professional, quality education by bringing students across the threshold of accomplishments within the studio; to develop in the student creative, experimental, and independent qualities, and an appropriately professional aesthetic; to provide students who wish to teach at the university level the knowledge of, and practice in, the visual arts; and to become engaged members of a variety of artistic and scholarly communities.
