BUILDING FUTURES: SCOTT INGRAMOCTOBER 9 - NOVEMBER 7RECEPTION: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 5:00 - 7:00 PMLECTURE BY SCOTT INGRAM: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 5:30 PM (Note Saturday hours)Building Futures takes its cue from mid century design ideologies crafted in the post WWII era. In this solo exhibition, Scott Ingram rediscovers and appropriates modernist architecture along with the everyday materials he utilizes to construct his works. Ingram draws specifically from a series of Case Study Houses in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1962, including designs by Charles & Ray Eames, Richard Neutra, Pierre Koenig, and Eero Saarinen. Media, or better put material, is selected on the basis of its accessibility and historical reference, consisting mostly of commercial grade building supplies like wood, steel, enamel, concrete and glass. His approach is minimal, but Ingram alters and inverts this design history to the great advantage of the resulting works. These results do not fit easily in one genre, labeled as painting, drawing or sculpture, but instead the range in materials work together to break the boundaries between media specific fields.
