Information Processing Minor

The information processing minor is a 17-18 semester hour program designed to provide background in information (data and text) processing with an emphasis on how information is processed in business offices. This minor is a relevant component for anyone whose career involves information processing and technology support services. It can be incorporated into both business and non-business majors.

Required courses:

  • BUS 170 or MIS 276

  • BEIT 307

  • BEIT 317

  • BEIT 320 or MIS 376

  • BEIT 336

·Plus one 3-hour course selected from the following:

  • BUS 201

  • BEIT 337

  • CS 253 or 256

  • ECT 436

  • MGT 301

  • MIS 300 or 310.

Professional Enhancement Program

The 11-12 semester hour Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) is designed to provide a concentrated emphasis in information processing and automated office procedures. It is particularly appropriate for persons re-entering office occupations or updating their preparation in this area. The courses in this program are applicable toward baccalaureate program requirements.

At the conclusion of the program, students will have gained:

  • knowledge of business application software packages

  • hands-on experience in using business application software packages

  • understanding of how information is handled in automated offices

  • understanding of communication considerations in the electronic office

No previous knowledge of office automation concepts or equipment is needed for this Professional Enhancement Program.
