All students, faculty, and staff are invited to take part in Assess for Success, ISU’s first- annual, university-wide assessment day on March 18, 2011. Sponsored by the ISU Assessment Council, Assess for Success will include events scheduled throughout the day to deepen engagement in assessment and to showcase best practices in assessment at ISU.
Highlights of the day include a keynote address and an interactive workshop by Douglas J. Eder, PhD, emeritus faculty member of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Beginning in 1987, Dr. Eder assisted in the development of SIUE’s program in academic assessment and served as the Director of Undergraduate Assessment and Program Review from 1993 until his retirement from SIUE in 2006. Dr. Eder has advised on assessment issues at over 125 institutions of higher education in Europe, across North America, and in the Western Pacific, and has published a number of refereed articles in the area of assessment.
Other scheduled Assess for Success events include a workshop on integrating assessment into strategic plan development, using the Bayh College of Education’s recent strategic planning initiative as a case study, and a workshop on developing assessment plans for non-academic units, with examples from the Facilities Management area.Afternoon activities include a poster session for programs to share examples of best practices, a panel discussion exploring assessment challenges and strategies, and a closing ceremony to recognize accomplishments in assessment across the university.
