Taking
the reigns for the Sycamore baseball program is
Lindsay Meggs, who comes to ISU after speing the
past 13 seasons as head coach at California
State-Chico where he guided the Wildcats to two
NCAA Division II National Championships and
compiled an overall record of 538-228-4.
“Lindsay Meggs is one of the finest baseball
coaches at any level in the country,” said Ron
Prettyman, ISU Director of Athletics. “He brings
a high level of experience, success and proven
abilities to our program. He will represent us
with class and dignity as our program develops
into one of national recognition.”
Meggs’ Wildcats have qualified for the world
series seven times in the last ten years. They
have capturedeight conference championships and
seven regional crowns in the span. A two-time
NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year
(1997 and 1999), he has been named regional
coach of the year seven times and has captured
conference coach of the year honors on seven
occasions.
A 1999 inductee into the California State-Chico
Hall of Fame, Meggs led the Wildcats to nine
conference championships and advanced to the
Division II College World Series seven times. He
was a three-time California State-Chico Coach of
the Year winner.
Prior to taking over at Chico, Meggs spent three
seasons as head coach at Long Beach City College
(Calif.) where he posted a record of 75-51-1. He
led his teams to the California Community
College Playoffs in each of his three seasons.
His first head coaching assignment came at
Oxnard College (1989-90). He served as an
assistant college at California Lutheran
University (1988-89) and De Anza Junior College
(1987-88).
Meggs earned his master’s degree in
education-physical education at Azusa Pacific
University in 1992, after completing his
undergraduate degree at UCLA in 1985. As a
player, he was a standout third baseman for four
years as a Bruin under coach Gary Adams. He
received All Pac-10 Infielder honors in 1983 and
was a 15th-round draft choice of the Kansas City
Royals in 1984.
Meggs earned his Bachelors degree from UCLA in
1985, and earned a Masters from Azuza Pacific in
1992. He and his wife, Teresa, have three
children: Joe, Kelly, and Jack.
