INDIANA STATE CONTINUES WINNING WAYS VERSUS GEORGIA STATE

ATLANTA - The Indiana State Sycamores earned their second victory of the young season in the first game of a doubleheader with Georgia State, 5-1, behind the strong pitching of junior right-hander Ryan Tatusko, who tossed seven innings of no-hit baseball in the victory. ISU improves to 2-0, while the Panthers fall to 3-6.

Tatusko allowed no hits and no runs in seven innings of work. He did walk four batters, but showed strong stuff, striking out nine of the 25 batters he faced.

When Tatusko exited at the end of the end of the seventh inning, he left with a 3-0 advantage. Adam Lindsay worked the final two innings, allowing just four hits and a run to grab his first save of the year.

ISU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Casey Martin stroked a one-out triple during the right field line, and then freshman Nick Ciolli hammered a Palmer offering over the right field fence to give the Sycamores an early lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, Dave Brumagin led off the frame with an infield single on a bunt. Sean Osborne sacrificed Brumagin over to second, and then moved over to third base on a fly ball to right field. Following a Ryan Bond walk, the double steal was put on by first-year head coach Lindsay Meggs. The throw which attempted to catch Bond motoring towards second base trickled away off the arm of the Panther pitcher, allowing Brumagin to push the ISU lead up to 3-0.

The Sycamores made their lead 5-0 on a two RBI single from Bond. Georgia State broke the shutout with one run in the bottom of the ninth to make the final, 5-1.

Leading off, Bond was 1-of-4 with the two insurance RBI in the top of the final frame. Ciolli finished 2-of-4 with a pair of runs scored as well two more runs driven in. Brumagin was 3-of-4 at the plate with two runs scored.

With the victory, Tatusko is 1-0 on the season. Georgia State’s Palmer falls to 1-2.

The 2007 campaign continues later today with the second game of the scheduled doubleheader. ISU and the Panthers complete the four-game series on Sunday, February 25 in the final game of the set, beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
