ATLANTA -
Indiana
State dropped the second game of Saturday’s (Feb. 24) doubleheader
with Georgia State by the score of 3-2 in eight innings of play.
ISU falls to 2-1 on the season while the Panthers improved to 4-6.
The Sycamores enter tomorrow’s fourth game of the series, with 2-1
lead in the four-game set.
ISU was once
again paced by lead-off batter Ryan Bond, who went 2-for-3 with a
run scored.
The
Sycamores got off to 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI
double by Brian Siegmund. His knock sent Bond home, who had reached
earlier in the frame on a walk.
Things
continued to go well for the Sycamores in the top of the fourth,
when the advantage stretched to 2-0 on a RBI ground-out by Sean
Osborne. Marcus Artner scored on the play after walking with one out
and advancing to third base on a wild pitch.
Georgia
State evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, and won
the game in the bottom of the eighth when Gordon scored on an Andrew
Strange wild pitch.
The second
game of the day was scheduled to last just seven innings, but was
extended into the eighth because of the tie score.
Chad Dawson
started the day’s second game and pitched 5.2 innings of six-hit
ball. He allowed just two earned runs on the day with a pair of
strikeouts.
In relief,
Skyler Pearson struck out the lone batter he faced, while Josh Varno
tossed a full inning, allowing just one run. Strange finished the
game for ISU by walking two Panthers and giving up a wild pitch on
the final play. With the loss, Varno falls to 0-1 on the season.
The final
contest of the four-game series with Georgia State is scheduled for
Sunday, February 25 at 1 p.m. (ET). |
