NICK CIOLLI EARNS MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

ST. LOUIS -- Indiana State freshman outfielder Nick Ciolli was honored earlier today (May 1) by the Missouri Valley Conference as its Player of the Week as announced by the league office.

Ciolli is the first Sycamore to earn MVC Player of the Week honors this season. Nevin Ashley was named MVC Player of the Week on March 20 last season, as he was one of two ISU players to earn the award one year ago.

Last week Ciolli went 9-for-17 at the plate this week as the Sycamores took 2-of-3 games at Northern Iowa this weekend and earlier won a non-conference tilt against Miami (Ohio) at home. Ciolli hit a blazing .529 for the week, scoring a team-high seven runs and recording a total of three doubles.

Ciolli drove in three runs as well, factoring in on 10 of the Sycamores 41 scores for the week. His slugging percentage for the week was a sparkling .706 as he also drew a pair of walks on the week. Ciolli handled seven chances in the outfield without committing any errors.

Ciolli currently is on a career-best 13 game hitting streak. Against the RedHawks, he went 3-of-4 at the plate with three runs scored and a pair driven in. He posted a pair of doubles against Miami.

In a 13-9 victory at Northern Iowa, Ciolli went 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored plus another double. Ciolli finished the week with a 2-for-5 effort in the series finale, scoring a run and driving in another.

Indiana State returns to action this Friday night for a key three-game MVC series against Bradley. First pitch in game one at Sycamore Field is set for 6:00 p.m. (ET).
