NICK CIOLLI EARNS MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
ST. LOUIS
-- Indiana State freshman outfielder Nick Ciolli was honored
earlier today (May 1) by the Missouri Valley Conference as its
Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
Ciolli is the first
Sycamore to earn MVC Player of the Week honors this season. Nevin
Ashley was named MVC Player of the Week on March 20 last season,
as he was one of two ISU players to earn the award one year ago.
Last week Ciolli went
9-for-17 at the plate this week as the Sycamores took 2-of-3 games
at Northern Iowa this weekend and earlier won a non-conference
tilt against Miami (Ohio) at home. Ciolli hit a blazing .529 for
the week, scoring a team-high seven runs and recording a total of
three doubles.
Ciolli drove in three runs
as well, factoring in on 10 of the Sycamores 41 scores for the
week. His slugging percentage for the week was a sparkling .706 as
he also drew a pair of walks on the week. Ciolli handled seven
chances in the outfield without committing any errors.
Ciolli currently is on a
career-best 13 game hitting streak. Against the RedHawks, he went
3-of-4 at the plate with three runs scored and a pair driven in.
He posted a pair of doubles against Miami.
In a 13-9 victory at
Northern Iowa, Ciolli went 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs
scored plus another double. Ciolli finished the week with a
2-for-5 effort in the series finale, scoring a run and driving in
another.
Indiana State returns to action this
Friday night for a key three-game MVC series against Bradley.
First pitch in game one at Sycamore Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
