SYCAMORES GET BATS GOING IN 12-4 VICTORY OVER BALL STATE
TERRE HAUTE,
Ind.
– Indiana State broke out its bats once again for a
mid-week game as they pounded out 15 hits in notching a 12-4
victory over Ball State tonight (May 8) at Sycamore Field. ISU
improves to 22-23 on the season while the Cardinals fall to
16-31.
ISU received strong
offensive production up and down the lineup with five different
Sycamores achieving multi-hit games. Leading the way was the
play of senior Ryan Bond who went 3-for-3 on the day with a pair
of runs scored and a run driven in. Bond hit a pair of doubles
on the day. His younger bother, Wayne (a former Sycamore),
recorded a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a pair of runs scored
and driven in. He notched his fourth homer of the year as well
as his first triple as the Bond brothers battled one another.
Ryan Strausborger, Chris
Schmidt, Nick Ciolli and Josh Abercrombie each added a pair of
hits in the game. Casey Martin and Brett Siegmund each added home
runs in the victorious effort.
On the mound, Skyler
Pearson tossed 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs
(only one of which was earned). He walked a pair and struck out
five as he improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
Matt Shelton worked the
seventh, giving up one hit and a run while Adam Lindsay struck out
two over the final two innings of shutout relief.
After falling behind 1-0
in the top of the first, ISU knotted the score with a two-out RBI
single by Dave Brumagin.
In the second, ISU
received RBI from Bond and Strausborger for the 3-1 lead and then
Nick Ciolli’s single to centerfield score a pair for the 5-1
advantage.
The lead reached 8-1 in
the third before Casey Martin’s fourth home run of the season gave
the Sycamores a 10-3 lead in the fourth.
After Ball State cut the
lead to 10-4, ISU added a pair of runs in the eighth for the 12-4
victory.
ISU returns to action
tomorrow, May 9 when they travel to Purdue for its final game of
the year against the Big Ten. The Sycamores are a perfect 3-0
against the Big Ten heading into Wednesday’s battle with the
Boilermakers. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. (ET).
