C.J. Keating • Assistant Coach
Undergraduate Degree Creighton, 1999
C.J. Keating enters his first season as assistant coach for the Indiana State Sycamores. Keating will serve as ISUís pitching coach. Keating, who will work exclusively with ISU pitchers, knows the Sycamores and the Missouri Valley Conference well. For the last four seasons, he was an assistant coach at Creighton University, serving the final two years as pitching coach. In his debut as Creightonís pitching coach in 2002, Keating molded a young rotation into a staff that finished third in league play in ERA. Along the way, then-sophomores Steve Grasley and Tom Oldham both were named first-team all-MVC hurlers. In addition, Matt Buckingham was an honorable mention Freshman All-America selection by Collegiate Baseball. Grasley ranked among the MVC and national leaders in saves, while Oldhamís performance helped earn him a spot in the prestigious Cape Cod League last summer. Keating was one of the Bluejaysí most consistent pitchers throughout his four-year career, making 30 starts in his career. He pitched three complete games as a Bluejay and was a co-captain on Creightonís 1999 team that advanced to the NCAA Regionals and placed second in the Missouri Valley Conference. Having made his mark on the Creighton record books, Keating is among career leaders in appearances (57), innings pitched (224.0), and strikeouts (176).
