Former Sycamore Chad Zaucha enters his second season as Indiana State’s graduate assistant coach. Zaucha played four years (1998-2001) for the same coach who he is now working under. After his senior season at ISU, the Mt. Pleasant, Pa. native signed a contract with the New York Yankees’ organization. However, Zaucha underwent season-ending surgery after spring training from an injury he had sustained in the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. He was released a year later prior to spring training. During the summer of 2002, Zaucha played for the River City Rascals, a professional indepenent organization in the Frontier League. He officially became an alumni of Indiana State in December, when he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health education. The outfielder had a distinguished career as a Sycamore. During his senior season in 2001, he hit .352 and led ISU in doubles (21) and runs scored (55). In addition, Zaucha was an All-MVC selection in his final season. His 21 doubles in a single season are tied for the fourth highest total. In 2000, Zaucha led the Sycamores with 55 RBIs and was named to the All-MVC Tournament Team. During his career, he collected 116 walks, which is good for fifth all-time at ISU. Prior to coming to Indiana State, Zaucha was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1997. Zaucha and his wife Ashlee reside in Brazil, Indiana.
