ISU TO HOST NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2004, 2005, AND 2006

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Andrea Myers announced Thursday (Sept. 25) that ISU has been selected to host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships for 2004, 2005, and 2006.  The events will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center.

“This is a tremendous honor for Indiana State University and Terre Haute,” said Myers.  “It is a credit to the Wabash Family Sports Center, the staff at ISU, and the hundreds of volunteers from the Terre Haute community who assisted in making last year’s championship a first-class event.  The ability to host an NCAA National Championship brings national exposure to the university, the community, and provides a boost to the local economy.”

Indiana State University hosted the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in 2002 and will play host to the Great Lakes Regional on November 15.  The LaVern Gibson Course hosted the Great Lakes Regional in 1998, 1999, and 2001.  The Sycamores also hosted the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in 2000 and 2002.

Located on 240 acres of land, the Wabash Family Sports Center includes the cross country course as well as softball, soccer, and football fields.  An indoor facility on the grounds houses two fullsize basketball courts, lockerrooms, and a senior citizens center.  It is located east of the Hulman Regional Airport in eastern Vigo County.

The Sycamores return to action on Saturday, October 4, when they host the ISU Invitational.
