FIGHTING IRISH CROWNED WOMEN'S REGIONAL CHAMPION
NOTRE DAME'S HUDDLE TAKES HOME INDIVIDUAL TITLE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Notre Dame placed five runners in the top 15, including first place, to become the 2003 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Women’s team champion. Molly Huddle took home the individual title for the Irish with a time of 20:14 in the 6K race held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.

The Irish took first with 43 points. Lauren King (7th - 20:48), Kerry Meagher (8th - 20:56), Megan Johnson (12th - 20:09) and Stephanie Madia (15th - 21:18) rounded out the scoring for Notre Dame.

The University of Michigan was second with 58 points, followed by Michigan State (96), Indiana (150) and Marquette (159) in the top five. Wisconsin was sixth with 203 points, while Toledo took seventh with 206. Ball State was eighth with 298 points followed by in-state rival Butler, who had 313 points. Purdue finished out the top 10 with 328 points.

Indiana State was 16th with 449 points, paced by Jessica Crowder, who placed 16th overall. Crowder will have to wait until Monday to see if her finish is good enough for an at-large bid to the Nationals. Sarah Jarvis was second for ISU and 92nd overall with a mark of 23:01, follwed by Amber Bucci (100th - 23:05), Maile Venable (107th - 23:12), Carolyn Chase (134th - 23:36), Laura Engle (150th - 23:54) and Dani Prince (158th - 24:00).
