WISCONSIN GRABS MEN'S REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
EASTERN MICHIGAN'S GAVIN THOMPSON TAKES HOME INDIVIDUAL TITLE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Wisconsin Badgers led a group of four Big Ten teams in the top five to become the 2003 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Men's team champion. Eastern Michigan's Gavin Thompson was the individual winner with a time of 30:12 in the 10K race at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.

Wisconsin (72 points) placed five runners in the top 23 to edge out Michgan (76 points). Bobby Lockhart was the Badgers' only top 10 runner (9th - 30:49), but he was followed by Simon Bairu (11th - 30:50), Chris Solinsky (13th - 30:51), Josh Spiker (16th - 30:54) and Tim Nelson (23rd - 31:08) in the top 25.

Michigan put three runners in the top 10, but its fifth-place runner finished 39th.

The rest of the top 10 teams included Ohio State (3rd - 116 points), Central Michigan (131), Indiana (134), Miami-OH (141), Butler (143), Notre Dame (145), Eastern Michigan (181) and Kent State (268).

Indiana State finished 21st overall. Aaron Harding was the Sycamores' top finisher, taking 79th place with a time of 32:29. He was followed by Jordan Fife (120th - 33:11), Dustin Strosnider (133rd - 33:21), Josh Kendall (144th - 33:39), Seth Aydt (152nd - 33:48), John Nay (153 - 33:49) and Craig Dismore (157th - 33:55).
