KUNZ SNAPS THREE-YEAR
ABSENCE FOR SYCAMORES AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State senior
Justin Kunz became the first individual on the men’s side
since 2000 and the first Sycamore since Jessica Crowder in 2003
to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championship as announced
by the NCAA today (Nov. 11).
Kunz garnered the birth in the Championships after an 11th-place
finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday in Bowling
Green, Ohio.
“We kind of knew that I would qualify yesterday, but it nice
to have it official today,” Kunz said of his achievement.
“It really hasn’t sunk in yet, but I’m really
excited and I hope it brings more attention to our program.”
Kunz, a second-year transfer from Rend Lake College is one of four
automatic qualifiers from the Great Lakes Region and one of only
38 in the nation.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Monday,
November 20 with the women’s 6k race beginning at Noon followed
by the men’s 10k race at 1:15 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship
course.
