TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A second-place performance by senior Jessica Crowder was easily the highlight for the Indiana State cross country teams on Friday at the Indiana Intercollegiates meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Indiana University won all the titles, both team and individual, for the men's and women's races. Audrey Geisler finished eight seconds ahead of Crowder to lead the Hoosiers to a women's team championship. Purdue came in second, followed Ball State and the Sycamores.
On the men's side, the 17th-ranked Hoosiers took the first five spots to claim the title, with Chad Andrews coming in first. The Purdue men duplicated the women's effort by taking second. Southern Indiana, who won the Little State title, came in third, followed by ISU.
Crowder, who set a 5K personal best time of 17:56 at the Bradley Open last week, erased that mark by a second with a time of 17:55. Freshman Maile Venable finished 32nd with a time of 18:47.
For the ISU men, junior Aaron Harding was the top Sycamore runner, finishing 19th with a mark of 25:53. Sophomore Jordan Fife was right behind him in 20th with a time of 26:04.
The Sycamores will return to action on October 4 when ISU hosts its invitational.
