Facilities

INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY MEMORIAL STADIUM

Memorial Stadium is the home of the Indiana State football program. The facility, a former minor league baseball ballpark, is one of the few Division 1-AA football stadiums in the country with an AstroPlay artifical playing surface, which was installed prior to the 2001 season. Indiana State, in 1967, was the first university in the world to own and maintain outdoor use of an artificial playing surface.
INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY SOCCER COMPLEX
The newest addition to the Sycamores’ athletic facilities is the Indiana State Soccer Complex. This facility consists of two separate natural-grass playing surfaces. One field serves as a practice field, while the main field, serves as the Sycamores’ gameday facility.
LAVERN GIBSON CHAMPIONSHIP CROSS COUNTRY COURSE
The LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wasbah Family Sports Center was dedicated on October 17, 1997. The land for the course was donated by LaVern Gibson for the development of the facility. Indiana State and Boston Celtic basketball star Larry Bird made a donation to the facility in honor of his father, Joe Bird, and the donation was matched by Max and Greg Gibson in the name of their father and grandfather respectively. The 240 acres of land is a reclaimed coal mine and includes the cross country course, softball, soccer and football fields and a building. The indoor facility houses two fullsize basketball courts, lockerrooms and a senior citizen center. The facility is just east of the Hulman Regional Airport in eastern Vigo County.
