CARL BERMAN INVITED TO WASHINGTON REDSKINS MINI-CAMP

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Former Indiana State wide receiver Carl Berman has been invited to the National Football League's Washington Redskins' mini-camp. He will begin his professional career with the Redskins on Thursday, May 3 when he attends their first post-draft mini-camp.

In 2006, Berman earned All-Gateway Football Conference Honorable Mention as well as Gateway Football All-Academic Second Team honors. Berman paced the team with 59 catches for 783 yards, an average of 13.8 yards per catch. He was on the receiving end of four touchdown passes, and caught a season-long 41-yard touchdown from Reilly Murphy in the season finale against Illinois State. A multi-faceted star, he averaged 18.6 yards per kick return. Berman’s 5.38 receptions per game average ranks second-best in the Gateway and finished 29th in the nation.

He averaged 71.8 yards receiving per game, good enough for third in the Gateway and 37th in the nation. In addition, Berman’s 18.6 yard kick return average was seventh best in the GFC. He topped the 100-yard receiving mark twice on the season, at Eastern Illinois as well as Western Illinois.

Berman performed well at the 2006 Magnolia Gridiron Classic held at Jackson State University on December 23. The all-star game pitted the nation’s best NCAA Bowl players whose teams did not advance to a bowl game against the nation’s top NCAA Playoff players. The NCAA Bowl team defeated the Playoff team by a score of 32-14.

Berman caught three passes in the game for a total of 73 yards to pace his squad on the day.

He becomes the first Sycamore to join an NFL camp since Jamie Petrowski did so in 2006 with the Tennessee Titans. Berman is the first-ever Sycamore to either be drafted or join the Washington Redskin's camp.
