SYCAMORES START SLOW FALL 69-53 TO CREIGHTON

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State fell behind early and couldn’t recover down the stretch, falling to the Creighton 69-53 at home and dropped 1-6 in conference and 8-7 overall. With the win, the Bluejays improve to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in conference.

“We were never really in the game,” head Coach Royce Waltman said. “We missed shots early and then when we missed them we could not really contest them on the rebound. When they got the rebounds, they got out on the break and made shots and that is a disastrous combination.”

Creighton shot a blistering 65% in the first half compared to Indiana State’s 30% and built a double-digit lead eight minutes in the half. The Bluejays continued to pour it on and led at the break 40-19.

In the second half Indiana State made an effort to try and chip into the double-digit lead, but couldn’t get any closer than 16 down the stretch. Both teams were playing without All-conference performers Nate Funk (Creighton) and David Moss (Indiana State), but the Sycamores have not found the answer to fill in the void that has been left.

Trent Wurtz led ISU with 13 points and five rebounds, while Tyson Schnitker and Gabe Moore added 10 points apiece. Anthony Tolliver scored 15 points on seven-of-nine shooting to lead Creighton.

The Sycamores will take the court next on Wednesday to face off against Drake. The Bulldogs got the better of the Sycamores in the first meeting on the season 76-59 in Des Moines on January 11.
