SYCAMORES ROLL OVER CAMELS 86-71

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State men’s basketball team continued to roll on Monday night with a 86-71 over the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. The Sycamores were led by senior David Moss with 24 points and extended their unbeaten streak to 7-0 on the season.

Men’s head basketball coach Royce Waltman saw some room for improvement after one day of preparation for the game.

“We came out and played well, considering the one day of preparation,” Waltman said. “We were able to build a big lead, but we were not able to put them away – we just weren’t able to do it.”

ISU won the opening tip and continued to roll from there in the first half, building a lead of 19 at one point in the first half. The men would carry a double-digit lead through 15 of the first 20 minutes of the game and score 21 points off 13 Campbell turnovers.

Moss led all scorers in the first half with 14 off 6-7 shooting, including a perfect 2-2 from behind the three-point line. ISU junior Tyson Schnitker followed with 10 points on 4-7 shooting and tallying five assists and two steals in the first half.

Following the break the Sycamores maintained the lead, avoiding each Camel run. Indiana State extended its lead to 21 at the 13:48 mark in the second half and then went cold. Campbell mounted a 22-9 run over the next eight minutes, cutting the ISU lead to its lowest of the night at eight.

Indiana State would finish the game on a 15-8 run, including 13 points from the free-throw to close the game 86-71. Five players scored in double-digits for the Sycamores including Moss with a game-high 24, Schnitker and freshman Jay Tunnell with 12, senior Darron Evans with a career-high 11 and junior Trent Wurtz with 10.

The 7-0 start is the Sycamores’ best since the 1978-79 team that took a perfect record all the way to the NCAA National Championship game. Indiana State will now prepare for its first conference match-up when they host the Illinois State Redbirds on Thursday at 7 pm.
