SYCAMORES DROP OT GAME TO DRAKE 77-68

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Tyson Schnitker’s jump shot with one second remaining in regulation bounced off the rim and the Sycamores would eventually fall 77-68 in overtime to Drake at home on Wednesday night. Schnitker led all scorers with 22 points and added eight rebounds, three steals and three assists in the losing effort.

“This was a hard loss to take today, because we had an opportunity to win this game,” said head coach Royce Waltman.

Indiana State carried a lead into the half (27-25) for the first time in the past seven games behind 10 points from Schnitker. The Sycamores took advantage of the Bulldogs' eight turnovers in the half and converted them into 14 points.

ISU was able to build a seven-point lead on three separate occasions during the first half, but the Sycamores were unable to get a basket in the final 1:41 and the Bulldogs capitalized with a three pointer at the buzzer to trim the lead to two.

Indiana State started strong after the break and built its fourth double-digit lead of the game eight minutes into the half. When the Sycamore lead reached a game-high at 54-43, ISU went cold and Drake went on a 19-5 run over the next nine minutes of the game to take their first lead in the second half with 1:39 on the clock.

Sophomore Gabe Moore hit one of two free-throws with 14 seconds remaining on the clock to tie the score 62-62. On the ensuing possession Schnitker stole the ball and missed a jumper with one second on the clock, forcing overtime.

In the extra five minutes, the Bulldogs made four of five field goals to pull away and iced it with six of eight from the free throw line. Nick Grant led five Bulldogs in double-figures with 15 points. Al Stewart added 13 points and a game-high six assists, while Jonathan Cox also poured in 13.

With the loss the Sycamores drop to 1-7 in conference and 8-8 overall, while Drake improves to 4-4 in conference and 11-8 overall.

Indiana State will be back on the road for its next two conference games at Bradley on Saturday (Jan. 21) and then at Illinois State on Wednesday (Jan. 25).
