SYCAMORES LOSE CLOSE
63-58 BATTLE AT EVANSVILLE
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State couldn’t
stop a four-game skid and fell on the road at Evansville 63-58,
dropping to 1-4 in conference play. With the win, the Purple Aces
stopped their own four-game losing streak and picked up their first
conference win of the season.
Evansville was led by junior Matt Webster who put in a game-high
17 points and tallied nine rebounds. Sophomore Gabe Moore recorded
16 points and five boards in the losing effort.
Indiana State tied the game at 32 in the final minute in the first
half, but went into the break down by five. Following the half,
the Sycamores would score the first five points on the half to even
the game at 37-37.
ISU would come within two with 1:09 on the clock 59-57, but couldn’t
get any closer down the stretch. Junior Trent Wurtz missed a three-point
attempt in the final ten seconds and Evansville freshman Jason Holsinger
hit two free throws to end the game 63-58.
Despite the loss, ISU has found some promising play in freshman
guard Jeremiah Wise. The native of Maywood, Illinois was one of
three Sycamores to score in double figures with 12 points and pulled
in four rebounds. Junior Tyson Schnitker was the third player in
double figures with 13 points and four boards.
The Sycamores will look to get back on the winning track when they
take the court against the Drake Bulldogs in Des Moines, Iowa, January
11.
