MARICO STINSON SWEEPS WEEKLY VALLEY AWARDS
ST. LOUIS –
Indiana State freshman guard Marico Stinson (Memphis,Tenn./Kingsbury
High) has swept the Missouri Valley Conference’s Player of the Week
and Newcomer of the Week awards as announced by the league office
earlier today.
Stinson averaged 30.5 points and
3.5 rebounds in the Sycamores' wins over Purdue (89-70) and Drake
(84-73). Stinson was 24-of-31 from the field (.774) and 13-of-17
(.765) from three-point range.
The freshman was 14-of-17 from
the field, 9-of-10 from three against Drake. The 9 three’s set a
school record and his 9-of-10 from three set a school percentage
record. His 26 first half points were three off Larry Bird’s school
record for a first half (29). Earlier in the week, Stinson hit for
24 points in ISU’s win over Big Ten foe Purdue.
Stinson also had four assists and
two steals. He is the seventh player in the history of the Newcomer
Award (began in 2003-04) to sweep Player and Newcomer awards in the
same week.
Indiana State returns to action
on Thursday, January 4 when they host conference rival Creighton at
Hulman Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. (ET).
