ROYCE WALTMAN'S CONTRACT WILL NOT BE RENEWED

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced this morning (March 3) that head men’s basketball coach Royce Waltman will not have his contract renewed. The announcement comes one day after the Sycamores fell in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to No. 2 seed Creighton, 59-38.

“As we enter a new chapter in Sycamore Men’s Basketball history, I would like to thank coach Waltman, and his staff, for their leadership and commitment to building the quality young men which they have worked with while at Indiana State,” Prettyman said.

During his ten years at the helm of the Sycamores, Waltman compiled a 134-164 record, including a 13-18 mark this season. Under Waltman, the Sycamores took the 2000 MVC regular season title as well as the 2001 MVC Tournament crown. ISU reached the NCAA Tournament twice under Waltman.

A national search will begin immediately for a new head men’s basketball coach.

”I am optimistic about the future of our program,” Prettyman said. “I am confident that after a thorough nationwide search, we will bring in new leadership to the program that will move us forward.” Prettyman said.
