TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
Fans of Indiana State got their hunger thwarted, and their thirst
for Sycamore basketball quenched as ISU debuted its 2006-07 team
during the annual Blue/White Scrimmage held during ‘Burgers With The
Boys’ tonight (Nov. 1) at Hulman Center. Several hundred fans came
in to partake of the complimentary hamburger meal, and then stuck
around to watch the one and a half hour workout.
Leading the way for the Blue team was freshman Cole Holmstrom, who
drained 5-of-8 attempts from 3-point range to score 22 points as
Blue took control late in the competitive scrimmage to defeat the
White, 72-64.
Other leaders for the Blue squad were freshman Brant Leitnaker, who
connected on 6-of-8 shots from the field to post 14 points. Freshman
Normal Wells scored 10 points, while senior Trent Wurtz added 11.
For the White, junior Mick Yelovich recorded a double-double,
posting 21 points and 12 rebounds. Yelovich hit 6-of-12 shots from
the field, including his lone 3-point attempt, and was 8-of-9 at the
foul line. In addition, he pulled down five offensive rebounds and
posted a blocked shot.
Freshman Marico Stinson also had a nice debut in playing for the
White team, as he hit a pair of 3-pointers to score 11 points.
Overall, the Sycamores showed an improved offensive spark, hitting a
combined 17 3-pointers in the game, and draining over 50% of their
attempts from long range in the intrasquad scrimmage. ISU also
proved to be solid with the ball, committing only a combined 13
turnovers during the evening.
Indiana State returns to action on Saturday, November 4 when they
host Missouri Southern at Hulman Center for their lone exhibition
contest. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
