SYCAMORES LOG FIRST SHUT OUT IN 0-0 TIE WITH IPFW

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women’s soccer team logged two more first this season in a match against IPFW on Friday afternoon. The Sycamores were able to log a shutout, but in turn were shut out in two overtimes for the teams’ first tie of the season.

“I think we played well in the second half and during the overtimes,” head coach Vernon Croft said, “we just had some missed opportunities in the final third today.”

IPFW out shot the Sycamores 23 to 15, but only 10 of those shots were on goal for the Mastodons. Indiana State tallied eleven shots on goal, but both goalkeepers were up to the task of saving each shot.

Sycamore sophomore Rachel Rudzis logged 10 saves and moved into second place in the all-time career saves among ISU goalkeepers. Rudzis and her counterpart, Shannon Lynn (11 saves) both went the distance in the contest, logging the full 110 minutes of game time.

“I was really proud of the girls in the way they came to battle today,” Croft said. “They really came in and competed.”

ISU will now return home after going 1-1-1 on the three game road trip to play a two- game home stand next weekend. The Sycamores will face conference foe Missouri State on Friday and first-time opponent Southern Utah University on Sunday.
